How did you become interested in this field?
The web was the next big thing in the mid 90’s when I was finishing up school. It was a blank canvas for those who were willing to go out and explore the possibilities in the interactive space.
What type of training or education best prepared you for your work as an art director?
I earned my BFA in Graphic Design at Rhode Island College (RIC). Self motivation is the key. A degree can lay the groundwork, but it’s really your own drive that will take you places.
What is an average day at work like for you?
The ad/marketing industry is very fast paced and deadline driven. The average day is spent trying to be a smart and creative as you can be in the limited time and budget you are given.
What do you like most about your job?
First is the sense of accomplishment when you know you created something that people appreciate. The second would be when you’re able to bring out the best in the people around you.
What advice do you have for others who are interested in pursuing a career in this profession?
Find an area you’re best at and then continually improve. Never try and stop outdoing your last project.
