How did you become interested in art and design?
Curiosity. Fascination with the new and unknown. Love of learning.
What type of training or education best prepared you for your work?
I have a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts.
What is an average day at work like for you and what types of projects are you currently working on?
I work at least ten hours a day, seven days a week. My current projects include creating new digital paintings and sculpture; publishing monthly eZine; preparing works for exhibition in San Francisco and New York; corresponding with others in the field; learning new processes; exploring what changes are occurring in the field; preparing for new booklet for publication; researching and reading; archiving; critiques with other artists; meeting and overcoming challenges; giving voice to new visual forms.
What do you like most about your job?
Challenge. Change. Constant learning. Inventing the new. Exploring possibilities of new ways of seeing. Lack of supervision. Absence of corporate structure. Flexibility. Individual growth and goal-setting.
What advice do you have for others who are interested in pursuing a career in this profession?
Find a way to be financially secure outside of art. It is not a place to be if you want the latest BMW in your driveway!
