About Commercial Art

Commercial art and visual communication are considered to be just as effective as written communication. In fact, visual images can often be more memorable and more powerful than words themselves. As the Internet grows and web based advertising methods become more popular, the use of visual communication is spreading further and wider.

The field of commercial art encompasses areas such as graphic design, web design, interactive media and multimedia design. Composition, style, color, texture, manipulation of graphic images, photo re-touching, and text design are all important pieces of visual communication. Professionals who work in the fields of visual communication and commercial art specialize in informing, educating and persuading individuals through the images that they create. They work with signs, typography, drawing, graphic design, illustration, and color to covey specific messages.  Commercial artists are often found working in the advertising, computer software, entertainment, media or marketing industries.
