About Architectural Design

Architects and interior designers have the ability to impact people by designing the spaces in which they live, work and play. Not only do they influence residential structures, they also have the ability to create successful commercial environments. For example, proper architecture and interior design can help businesses improve marketability and attract desired clientele. Customers who feel comfortable in the environment in which they shop will browse longer and potentially purchase additional products. Architecture and interior design can also improve quality of life, increase productivity and protect the well being of the public.

Architects, interior designers and drafters must work together when designing and building new structures.

Architects work to ensure that the structures they design are aesthetically pleasing, functional, safe, economical, and suit the needs of the people who use them. They are responsible for managing and coordinating all of the efforts that go into the construction process, solving any problems that come about, and making any necessary changes to the design of the structure. Architects must also make certain that all projects abide by building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations and other ordinances.

Interior designers create plans to enhance the interiors of these architectural structures. They will manage the entire decorating process; including the purchase, construction, and installation of all design elements. Interior designers also have a role in deciding the location of windows, stairways, escalators and walkways, and are involved in architectural detailing.

Drafters are responsible for preparing the technical drawings and plans for architectural and interior design projects. They take the ideas of architects, engineers and designers, and create plans that provide all of the technical details and design elements specific to the product being constructed.

It is very important to meet with clients to discuss the needs, preferences, and budget restrictions relating to the project. Everyone must work together to create design plans, estimate the cost of production, and prepare a schedule of tasks to complete the project. The most important task is to ensure that the client is happy with the final outcome of the project.
